Dear Parents and Carers,
Embracing the Spirit of Mary MacKillop
Last week, I had the opportunity to visit MacKillop Place in Sydney, where I was immersed in a deeply enriching colloquium exploring the life, spirit, and mission of Mary MacKillop. As a Josephite school, we are called to reflect on her unwavering commitment to education, faith, and service—values that continue to shape our community today.
This gathering was a powerful reminder of the importance of fostering compassion, resilience, and leadership in our staff and students, following in Mary’s footsteps.
Sand and Water Play: A Splash of Joy!
We are thrilled to see the successful opening of our new Nature Play area! This vibrant space has quickly become a hub of excitement, offering our children endless opportunities for imaginative and sensory-rich play.
As we eagerly await the final piece—the shade structure that will go over the sandpit—this space will soon be fully equipped for comfort and extended play, ensuring a welcoming and sun-safe environment for all. We look forward to seeing our students continuing to engage with this special addition to our school.
A Big Thank You for Your Support!
A huge thank you to all who volunteered and assisted with the BBQ fundraiser at the recent polling booth—your time, dedication and generosity made the day a tremendous success! Together, we raised over $2,000, all of which will go toward the new Sport Shade Structure in the multi-sports space.
This initiative will provide much-needed protection for our students, from the sun and the rain when in this area. I would especially like to acknowledge and thank Nicholas for the generous donation of eggs from Tembys Farm as well as 5AA for the donation of sausages.
A Big Thank You to Our Wonderful Mums
We extend our gratitude to all the incredible mums who joined us for our special Mother’s Day morning. It was wonderful to see so many of you come together to share in the spirit of community and connection.
Your presence was greatly appreciated, it was great to see many enjoying a chat over coffee and it was a beautiful reminder of the bonds that strengthen our school family. We hope you all had a wonderful day filled with love and appreciation.
The Value of Outdoor Education in Our School Community
At our school, outdoor education is more than just an adventure—it’s a vital part of learning. By stepping beyond the classroom, students develop resilience, teamwork, and independence in ways that shape their personal growth.
Recently, our Year 3 and 4 students experienced the joys of farm life at Narnu Farm on Hindmarsh Island, where hands-on activities fostered a deeper connection to nature and history. This week, our Year 5 students embark on their own journey at Woodhouse Adventure Park, taking on challenges that build confidence, cooperation, and problem-solving skills.
These camps offer lasting memories and invaluable experiences, reinforcing the importance of collaboration and interdependence—skills that serve our students well beyond the school years.
Our Year 6 students will head to Willow Creek Adventure Camp in Term 4.
Staffing Announcements
I am delighted to announce that Ms Sherri Powell will be joining us as the new Mid-Year Reception Teacher, starting at the beginning of Term 3. Sherri is an experienced early years educator, having worked in many Primary and Pre Schools.
I also would like to acknowledge and thank Ms Catherine White, who will be leaving us at the end of week 6 to start her maternity leave. We wish her and the family well and thank her for all her efforts with PE. We hope to see her visiting us soon with their new addition to the family.
School Closure Day
Please note that the school will be closed on Friday 6 June for our staff reflection and retreat day. This is attached to the long weekend, so student will return to school will on Tuesday 10 June.
Kind regards
Adrian Grbin
