St Vincent de Paul Christmas Hamper Appeal

It’s that time of the year again!

We will launch our annual Vinnies Christmas Hamper Appeal in Week 3.  St Joseph’s Tranmere traditionally joins with the Parish to collect non-perishable Christmas goodies for distribution in hampers to families within the Parish who need some extra support at Christmas time.

This year in the time of COVID-19, it is even more important to support families who are suffering due to being either under-employed or having lost full employment.

Below is a list of goodies that we are encouraged to collect.  The collection of goods can be left with the classroom teacher.

We are asked to collect food that is specific for Christmas.  In the past, there have been suggestions such as tinned ham, Christmas cake, puddings, cordial, mince pies, lollies, tinned biscuits, tinned fish and tinned vegetables.  Vinnies also welcomes Christmas wrapping paper and bon-bons.   Store vouchers or gift cards are welcome so that families can purchase fresh meat, fruit and vegetables for Christmas Day.

Other ways of helping St Vincent de Paul at Christmas time can be found on their website:       http://donate.vinnies.org.au/donation-hub-charistmas-appeal

The 10th Anniversary of the Canonisation of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop occurred on Saturday Oct 17th.  We celebrated the 10th Anniversary with a Liturgy for staff and students, followed by ice blocks for the children.   It was a joyous Liturgy which highlighted the importance of St Mary of the Cross as Australia’s first Saint, and reflected on the continuing relevance of Mary’s influence and legacy for our Josephite schools and communities today.

On Friday our Yr 6 students will take part in a visit to the Mary MacKillop Precinct to explore the new Mary MacKillop Museum.  We are looking forward to the visit.
