Dear Parents and Carers,

SunSmart

I trust you are enjoying the lovely spring weather, it is certainly a special time of the year.  As the weather warms up it is a good time for us to be reminded about being Sunsmart.

On our school website you will find the UV meter which provides an up to date rating of the day and what time during the day you require sun protection.  Many students apply sun screen each morning before coming to school, which is a recommended habit, as well as starting to wear their school hat on days that the UV rating is high.  Our school policy requires hats to be worn in Terms 1,2 and 4, however students can wear their hat this term, especially on high UV days.

Student Leadership

Over the last term our Student Action Team has been working on a project to improve the outdoor seating for the school.  The brief was to find an outdoor bench and table that students could use for outdoor learning as well as for a gathering and eating space.

The team looked at quality, price, environmentally friendly products, colour and design and obtained quotes.  The team then wrote a proposal to the Parents & Friends Committee outlining their reasons for the purchase and to ask for financial assistance with the cost.  The P&F were happy to accept their proposal and the outdoor furniture was purchased.

When the furniture arrived the team, with the assistance of Paul our Groundsman, assembled the seating and you can see the end result along the OSHC verandah and the MacKillop deck outside the year 7 classrooms.

The Student Action Team would like to thank the P&F for their support in providing the necessary funds for this project.  The Team are currently working on other projects, so stay tuned!

Events

Our school will celebrate Multicultural Day on Friday 20 September 2019.  This week all students received a note for a special recess and lunch meal deal.  Can you please complete and return this by tomorrow, Friday 13 September 2019, with the correct money.

The day will be full of events as we celebrate the many cultures that make up our school community.

A reminder that the last day of Term will be Thursday 26 September 2019 - this will be ‘Show your True Colours Day’ when students will be able to wear their favourite sporting team colours.  Friday 27 September will be a pupil free day while the staff have a professional development day.

Water Safety Program

Thank you to all our volunteers last week during the Reception to Year 4 water safety week.  We certainly value the assistance of volunteers during the week to make the sessions run smoothly and to support students and staff during the sessions.

Last week I attended one day of the National Primary Principal’s Conference where a keynote speaker, Dave Faulkner from Education Changemakers, addressed us on wellbeing and mental health.  It was very enlightening and informative.  In the busyness of life, and especially today on R U OK day, it is important that we all check in on each other, our family and friends and take the time to enjoy being active.  I hope you will be able to enjoy this spring weather and make the time to spend with family and friends, enjoying in the moment.

Regards

Adrian
