Dear Parents and Carers,
As the middle of the year is rapidly approaching and the term break is around the corner, teachers are completing the semester one summative report. School reports are issued twice a year to inform parents about your child’s progress. They include achievement levels, (Year 1-7) for all learning areas and your child’s overall effort. The report also provides a professional assessment of your child’s progress in English and Mathematics. The information in the report should provide you with a picture of what you already know, based on your current understanding of your child’s progress from their teachers. Parents and Carers have the opportunity to follow up on any aspects of your child’s report if you need clarification in the last week of term or early next term.
The reports will be sent home in week 10 of this term.
Quiz Night
Last Saturday evening was the P & F Quiz Night. This very entertaining and enjoyable night was a great success. A large number of parents and friends gathered at the Molinara Community Club to compete for the honours of being the most knowledgeable team and to win great prizes.
Thank you to all who attended the night and supported our P & F. This was a major fundraiser for the year, which will benefit all our students with funds going towards new reading resources, outdoor furniture, new drinking taps and a water cooler.
We were lucky to have many generous families and businesses who donated prizes and silent auction items for the night; we thank them for their valuable contributions.
I would like to acknowledge our hard working P & F committee for their amazing enthusiasm and commitment to raising money for our school. They are a joy to work with and should be very proud of their efforts. A big thankyou to David ‘Quiz Master’ Watts for putting the quiz together and running the night. A great night out, hope to see you there in 2020.
Cybersafety Parent Session
The P & F are also supporting and organising a Parent Information Session on Cyber Safety for Families. This event will take place on Tuesday 2 July at 7pm.
The session provides families with strategies to make the home environment cybersafe. The presentation is interactive and engaging providing the latest information. Cybersafe Families parent sessions are certified by the Children’s eSafety Commissioner as an Online Safety Program provider to deliver online safety programs in Australian schools.
Our Year 4-7 students will be involved in a student session on the same day, building their digital intelligence and safety online. The topics covered include cyberbullying, digital footprint, friend’s online, social media and how to be a successful cyber citizen.
I strongly recommend that you place this date in your diary and come along to hear about the future of home internet safety.
Staff Formation Day
On Tuesday 11th June, 2019 the St Joseph’s School Staff participated in a Reflection Day at Seacliff Beach, focusing on the theme of ‘Seeing things differently’. Julian Kluge from the Catholic Education Faith Formation Team led our staff on a wonderful spiritual journey of being open to the infinite worth in all people. We were able to reflect on how we can deeply connect to life and others by being contemplative people, living and loving in the moment. We focused on cultivating mindfulness and learning about gratefulness. The day provided many moments of prayer and reflective moments, as well as providing staff the opportunity to be together and share a very special day.
Next week on Tuesday, our Athletics Team will compete at SA Sports Stadium against other catholic schools in our section. We wish them well and look forward to hearing about the day when they return.
Kind regards
Adrian
