Dear Parents and Carers,

In 2018, we are focusing on the theme of Opportunity, which is one of the foundations of our beautiful school.  In our school mission statement, “we strive to create opportunity for all children to find their place in the world”.  When coming into the front office, one of the first things I notice is the wonderful mural of the mustard tree.  You cne clearly see the words: opportunity, faith, learning and community.  At the start of a new year, we are able to take every opportunity to establish new goals and look to ways we can continuously improve to become a better learner and person.

Each term we will also be reflecting and focusing on one of our core values.  This term we are highlighting Gratitude.  This week we celebrated a wonderful school mass with Fr Anthoni, Fr Jevan and the parish community.  Fr Anthoni asked each class to share one thing they were grateful for as we start a new year.  The children provided amazing answers including: God, family, friends, environment, teachers, school and for our senior students it was the iPad.

It is important for all of us to stop and take time to reflect on what we are truly grateful for in our lives.  I attended a course a few years ago, and in one session, we had to write a letter to someone we were grateful to have our lives.  It was a dedicated set time and I found it very rewarding and special to reflect and actually write down my thoughts on why they were special.  In the busyness of life, we sometimes forget to think about the things around us that really matter and make us grateful.  I encourage you to ask your child what they are grateful for and take the time to live in the moment.

I welcome all of our school community into a new school year.  I especially would like to welcome all our new students and their families.  A special welcome to our brand new receptions: Luke, Lauren, Ivy, April, Allegra, Jack, Chloe, Gabriella, Karlia, Leo, Oliver H, Isabella, Shaya, Lewis, Oliver K, Jakson, Olivia, Grace, Brianna, Isla, Sebastian, Eloise, Amelia-Jane, Elizabeth and Abigail.  In addition, we welcome, Mathilde in Year 2, Nigella and Jimmy in Year 3.

I would also like to welcome new staff to our school.  Ms Amanda Karam working with Stephanie O’Leary in Year 1/2 on Thursday and Friday.  Ms Emma Paradiso in our Reception class.  We look forward to working with them and I am sure you will make them feel very welcome into our community.  We also welcome back Mrs Mandy Herbert from maternity leave and Ms Nerelle Ghabriel working in a Year 1/2 class with Kathy Deegan.

Year 7 Formation Day

I had the opportunity this week to visit our year 7 Students at their leadership day on Monday.  It was an impressive and special day at Morialta Resource Centre.  I was able to observe them learning about different types of leadership, the importance of teamwork, how to be a servant leader and how much they love pizza.  They were highly engaged and demonstrated already great leadership skills, I look forward to working with them this year.

Thank you to all our parents and carers who braved the heat last night to attend our ‘Meet the Teacher’ evening.  It was a great success and allowed families the opportunity to see their child’s classroom and hear about the exciting learning opportunities they will be experiencing.

Kind regards

Adrian
