Our Assembly this week will be held on Friday 26th May which is National Sorry Day, and this important national event will be acknowledged within the Assembly. Students will also be involved in creating a whole school display along the Magill Road boundary fence using streamers representing the colours of the indigenous flag to recognise the importance of the National Apology and the work we need to do as a nation towards Reconciliation.
During National Reconciliation week we would also like to create a whole school garden display that features a rock or stone from each child within our school. Therefore we are asking that every child bring a rock about the size of an adult fist to school by Monday 29th May 2017. Students will be painting these rocks with a symbol and then they with be placed together in a garden to represent the little steps we can take together to build an Australia that respects and recognises our Indigenous community.
A third event that some of the children have been involved in has been to create Reconciliation Artworks, which will be on display at the Magill UniSA Café during Reconciliation week as part of a bigger Reconciliation Artworks Exhibition. A range of students from Reception to Year 7 students have been reflecting on what reconciliation means to them and to our country and have created a range of different artworks to represent their ideas. The children's artwork will be on display for the whole week for viewing. Students and families are being invited to a special afternoon tea at Magill Uni to celebrate the exhibition. Please see the attached invitation for further information.
