Down and Dirty!

On Friday 31st July 4/5RM went to The Gums to take part in Planet Ark’s, School Tree Day.  When we got there, we were introduced to Gerry and the rest of The Gums Landcare Group who taught us how to plant shrubs.

Gerry also shared some interesting facts like what fungi is and how it breaks down natural materials to make food for insects.

We planted 53 shrubs and put plastic triangles around them to protect them from native animals.  After that, we pulled out a lot of weeds that were taking up lots of space and competing with native shrubs.

We all enjoyed this wonderful learning experience and can’t wait for another opportunity to help our local community.
