Week 9, Term 2 2022
Dear Parents and Carers,
It is hard to believe that we are at the end of Term 2 already!
As you would have seen, the Adventure Playspace is taking shape and the Magill Road entry promenade is now accessible. The parking spaces in front of the school on Magill Road are available for families to use during the school day – please be aware that at 4.30pm this does become a Clearway. During the term break, work will continue in both the Adventure Playspace and the Multisports space. We hope to have use of these areas in the near future and we thank you and the students for their patience while the works continue.
Thank you to the families who are using the Kiss and Go area correctly before and after school. This keeps the area safe for our students.
From the start of Term 3, we have full access to the refurbished Parish Halls and the OSHC/Community Space. Our OSHC children have had input into the layout of this area and are excited to move in! Families who use the OSHC service will be contacted about access to the new OSHC entry in the near future.
Community is such an important aspect of our school and we have greatly missed welcoming our families on to the school grounds. Next term we are delighted that families will be able to come on site at the start and end of the school day to bring and collect your children through both the Magill Road promenade entry and through the double gates on Birkinshaw Avenue. We look forward to our Birkinshaw Avenue promenade entry opening soon.
We warmly invite you to join us on Monday 25th July for our Whole School Community Prayer starting at 8.45am in the Main Hall followed by a Welcome Morning Tea in the Top Hall. Please enter through the Birkinshaw Avenue entrance to the Parish Hall.
Over the past three weeks, we have welcomed 9 new Reception students into our Mid-Year intake through our Little STaRS transition program. We have also welcomed our new Reception teacher, Mrs Shannon Thrift, who is working in RCM while Mrs Winders is on maternity leave. We wish them all well as they join our school community.
I would also like to thank Mrs Stephanie O’Leary who is now working full time in 1/2SJ while Mrs Hicks is on maternity leave.
Thank you to our school community for all your support this term, it is greatly appreciated. I wish you and your families a restful break from school and look forward to seeing you on Monday 25th July for the start of Term 3.

National NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia in the first week of July each year (Sunday to Sunday), to celebrate and recognise the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth.
In 1/2LB we have been exploring Indigenous Australian literature, children’s books, and artworks. As a class we read the book ‘Big Rain Coming’ by Katrina Germein, the illustrator uses Indigenous symbols to depict weather scenes. We looked at all the different symbols used and what those symbols may mean. In our art lesson we took ideas from our discussions and created our own weather scenes from ‘Big Rain Coming’ using similar ideas and symbols.

We are pleased to inform our school families that there will be no increase in school fees for the 2023 school year.
As South Australians continue to feel the impact of COVID-19, Catholic Education SA has announced it will freeze fees at its 86 Diocesan schools for the 2023 school year.
“These decisions are part of our continued COVID 19 response as we seek to support families at a time when they are being impacted by rising costs and inflation,” says Dr Neil McGoran, Director, Catholic Education SA.
Since 2019, Catholic Education SA has been implementing the Making Catholic Education More Affordable Initiative to ensure our schools are accessible to any family who wants their child to have a Catholic education.
Dr Neil McGoran said the fee-freeze would not impact the quality of education.
“We’re committed to keeping school fees as low as possible and ensuring a Catholic education is affordable and accessible to all.”
In addition to the fee-freeze, further fee remissions are available to any family who is struggling to pay school fees due to financial pressures. Families should contact our Business Manager, Janet Price, for more information.

Thank you for supporting our pre-loved book sale this week. A total of $100 was raised which will buy new books for our Resource Centre.
We hope you are enjoying reading your new books!

“At the end of the day, the most overwhelming key to a child’s success is the positive involvement of parents”.

If you wish your child/children to attend Out of School Hours Care (OSHC) for either Before or After School Care, we require registration with 'Fully Booked' prior to session attendance. This system is both user friendly and streamlined to ensure that registration is a simple process and that families are able to manage their own bookings/cancellations as needed.
Initial setup will require you to register an account and complete all necessary information required using the following link: http://stjotran.fullybookedccms.com.au/family/
Please contact Angela Girolamo agirolamo@stjotran.catholic.edu.au or Melanie Heaney mheaney@stjotran.catholic.edu.au if you require further assistance.
It is important to note that when you create your bookings through Fully Booked, the session type will automatically default to the Full Casual rate. If this is not what is required, you will need to deselect the ticked box in the top left hand corner of the booking screen and select available options from the drop down menu. Unfortunately we are unable to change past bookings, so please make sure you go through this process to ensure the correct rate is charged.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
